We’ve went ahead with 2 normal Banana leaf rice set (RM9.00 per set). Each set is refillable (no sharing allowed) which comes with white rice, a range of vegetables i.e. salad cucumber, long beans, deep fried snake gourd, acar (pickled vegetable), and also you get to choose any curry of your choice (there’s the option of dhal, fish curry and chicken curry), oh, and there’s also Papapum, which looks like crakers. If you like a little spice and saltiness to your meal, you can ask for some dried salted chilli, which we think goes really well together with the dish. The banana leaf rice set is also vegetarian-friendly as there is a large population in India who are vegetarians.
The white rice is light and fluffy. We usually love to Banjir (flood) our rice with LOTS of curry. The dhal would be perfect for someone who can’t take too much spiciness, whereas the chicken and fish curry is a little more spicy. The chicken curry is has a slight sweetness to it while the fish curry is more towards the sour side. Depending on your preference, you can choose to mix the different types of curry onto your rice).
We’ve also added on a plate of Mutton Curry (RM10.00). The meat is really tender and has lots of flavour and fragrance from the spices in the curry. You’ll also find some chunks of potatoes in there. Having a meat dish is a good add on to the banana leaf rice set if you’re a meat lover.
Instead of a plate, banana leaf rice is usually served on a banana leaf which is disposable after each use. You can also choose to eat with your *right* hand, otherwise there’s also cutleries available. We’re not experts in using our hands, so we opt for forks and spoons.
Total bill came up to around RM35, i.e. approximately RM10-20 per person.
